Today’s Confirmations at St Mary Magdalene

A lovely Spirit filled service at St Mary Magdalene’s in Geddington this morning saw the church united in celebrating God calling His latest disciples into His Body. The Bishop of Peterborough, Bishop Donald, our symbol of unity in this diocese and standing in Christ’s stead, confirmed Annabelle McCallum-Toppin, Catherine McCallum-Toppin, Blake Agan, Heidi Agan, Mandy Garbett and Colin Garbett in the Holy Spirit.

Thank you to all those who joined us in unity and togetherness and thank you to those new confirmees for standing up and confirming their faith, trust and discipleship in Jesus Christ by declaring their commitment to His Church. God was truly present with us today!

The journey now begins for them all and we are looking forward to walking with them on this next part of their life-long journey with God.

The Bishop of Peterborough conducted an inspiring, sensitive and truly moving service. His sermon was a challenge to us all to stand up and be counted in our Christian faith and work at building up God's Church on earth, The moment he bestowed upon the candidates the Sacrament of Confirmation the Spirit could truly be felt moving throughout the church gathering.

My overarching advice to all who have been confirmed in God’s transformative Spirit is not to let the Spirit run cold, but to work at ensuring it continues to drive you forward. Be brave in your faith and work at deepening it day by day.

Prayer and receiving the Eucharist regularly is vital to this. The Church’s seasons should help. Morning Prayer or Mid-week Eucharist (if you can make it) is also a good way to get an odd mid-week top-up. And some form of study will help tremendously. Lent discussion groups will soon be running- just five weeks and you don’t have to commit to them all. Just sign up to the one that is most convenient on the sheets in church.

Above all, allow the Spirit to continue to work in you and respond positively to its call when it comes knocking.

May His Holy Spirit guide, nurture and support you in your long journey of faith and keep encouraging you to work for the furtherance of his kingdom and the building up of his Holy Church on earth. Amen
